MRS. LAURA (Cook) COX (1873-1902)

As stated in last week's issue fears were entertained regarding Mrs. Ernest Cox's condition, blood poison having already set in at the time. And though the best efforts were exerted to overcome the difficulty, it was of no avail and death came as a release at four o'clock Friday morning. After the child was born Saturday the mother thought she was getting along well enough and did not want the doctor to come any more. Tuesday, however, Mrs. Marvin and Mr. Cox both felt as though a doctor should be called, and at length, against the protest of the patient, medical help was summoned. But it was too late, the result being as above stated.

The funeral took place at 2:30 Saturday afternoon from the M. E. church, Rev. W. E. Kloster officiating, the pall bearers being W. H. Rossman, Frank Zetsche, W. W. Harlow, W. E. Wesenberg, Simon Schwarze and L. Bortle. The body was laid to rest in the Greenwood, cemetery.

Deceased was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Morton N. Cook of the town of Hewett, where she was born July 19, 1873. On Nov. 11, 1891, she was married to Ernest E. Cox, to whom she bore four children, only three of whom, including the baby born Saturday, survive. On their marriage they settled at once in the home near the Baptist church where they have since lived and where she died.

Besides her husband and three children she is mourned by her parents who still live in the town of Hewett and by six brothers and three sisters, these being George Cook of Merrillan, Morton M. Cook of Westboro, Mrs. Frone Clark of Merrillan, Mrs. Emma Ayers of Neillsville and Wm. and Sarah Cook, both of Neillsville.

Her untimely death is peculiarly sad as it breaks up the home and deprives three young children of their mother. The oldest one, Clayton, who is nine years of age, and his next youngest sister, will be cared for by Mrs. Cox's father and mother and the baby will be cared for by his sister and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Stoneburg.
