OBITUARY OF CHAS. H. CUMMINGS
Charles Henry Cummings was born near
Springfield, Mass., Sept. 14, 1841, and died June 22, 1926. He came
with his parents to Wis. When a small boy, making the trip across
the country by team, and camping on the way. They settled in
Trempealeau County where his boyhood days were spent. At the age of
21, he enlisted from Lincoln, Trempealeau Co., and was mustered
into the service at Camp Randall, Madison, Wis. Oct. 1862 as a
private of Co. C 30th Regt., Wis. Volunteer Infantry, which was
assigned to the 2nd Brigade, 2nd Division, Military District of
Kentucky. He was sent to Dakota and Minnesota, then south via the
Missouri and Miss. Rivers to Louisville and Bowling Green, Ky.,
where they were put on guard and provost duty. He was honorably
discharge Oct. 5th, 185 at Madison, Wis.
