OBITUARY MENTION
Decker, Mary Meier (1837-1901)
The funeral of Mrs. Mary Decker, whose death was chronicled last
week, occurred from the West Side church last Friday at one
o'clock, Rev. Joseph Schmalz officiating. The church was crowded by
those who met to pay their last respects to the memory of the
departed friend and neighbor. The pall bearers were Gottlieb
Meinholdt, Fred Weherman, Frank Abel, John Schwarze, Phillip
Vollrath and Henry Meier.
Mrs. Decker was born in Germany in 1837, coming to this country
with her parents when a small girl. Her maiden name was Meier. She
was married to Fredrick Decker in Sheboygan county and came to
Clark county in the early 70s. She was the mother of seven
children, one of whom died some years ago. The living children are
Herman and Otto Decker, Mrs. Henry Gemeke, Ferdinand Decker, Mrs.
John Christianson and Amelia Decker. She was step mother to three
others, August lives at Chilton and Fred is in Chicago and was the
only one of the near relatives not present at the funeral. Henry
lives near the home farm. Her demise leaves only Ferdinand and
Amelia left in the home. These, with the other sorrowing ones, are
shared with in their mourning by the entire community.
