OBITUARY MENTION

Decker, Mary Meier (1837-1901)

The funeral of Mrs. Mary Decker, whose death was chronicled last week, occurred from the West Side church last Friday at one o'clock, Rev. Joseph Schmalz officiating. The church was crowded by those who met to pay their last respects to the memory of the departed friend and neighbor. The pall bearers were Gottlieb Meinholdt, Fred Weherman, Frank Abel, John Schwarze, Phillip Vollrath and Henry Meier.

Mrs. Decker was born in Germany in 1837, coming to this country with her parents when a small girl. Her maiden name was Meier. She was married to Fredrick Decker in Sheboygan county and came to Clark county in the early 70s. She was the mother of seven children, one of whom died some years ago. The living children are Herman and Otto Decker, Mrs. Henry Gemeke, Ferdinand Decker, Mrs. John Christianson and Amelia Decker. She was step mother to three others, August lives at Chilton and Fred is in Chicago and was the only one of the near relatives not present at the funeral. Henry lives near the home farm. Her demise leaves only Ferdinand and Amelia left in the home. These, with the other sorrowing ones, are shared with in their mourning by the entire community.
