Ebben, Marie (1915 - 1999)
Marie Ebben, age 83, of Thorp passed away Monday, June 28,
1999 at Oakbrook Manor in Thorp.
Marie Elizabeth Benzschawel was born in rural Thorp on October 20,
1915 to Mary and Nick Benzschawel Jr. At age 18 she left Thorp to
be employed as a Nanny in St. Paul, Minnesota for five years.
She returned to Thorp to marry Delton J. Ebben at St. Bernard's
Church on October 4, 1938. They resided in Stanley for four years
before moving to Sheboygan in 1942. They returned to Thorp in the
fall of 1945, and have been active community members since
then.
Marie was especially active in the Catholic Church and served as
financial secretary for the National Catholic Society of Foresters
for 47 years and was Circle Chairman for many years. She also
worked for St. Bernard's School lunch program and later for the St.
Bernard's-St. Hedwig's lunch program and was very active in
volunteer work. Marie loved gardening and enjoyed her many card
clubs. She was a wonderful mother and loving wife and will be
deeply missed by her family.
Left to mourn are her husband and seven children: Gretchen (Norm)
Seidling, Eau Claire Dale (Diane) Sunfish Lake, MN Dean (Ruth), New
Hope, MN Gladi (Carl) Felser, Tomahawk David (Geri), Schofield Gary
(Tina), Sun Prairie and Joyce of Alta Loma, Ca two sisters: Bernice
Hicks of Boyceville and Celia Moskiewicz of Thorp 18 grandchildren
and 8 great-grandchildren.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Matt, and a
sister Anne.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 1, 1999, 10:30 a.m.
at St. Bernard's-St. Hedwig's Catholic Church, Thorp with burial at
St. Bernard's Cemetery.
Visitation was on Wednesday, June 30, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the
Thorp Funeral Home with a 7:30 p.m. parish rosary.
