Joseph A. Erl (27 Dec 1914 - 19 Sep 1999)
Joseph A. Erl, 84, Medford, died Sunday,
Sept. 19 at the Comforts of Home residential facility in
Abbotsford, Clark County, WI where he had resided for the past
month.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 22 at
Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford, with Rev. Dennis Meulemans
officiating. Visitation was Tuesday evening from 4-9 p.m. at Hemer
Funeral Home in Medford, where there was a 7 p.m. Parish Prayer
Service. Burial took place in Medford Evergreen Cemetery, with
graveside military rites. Serving as pallbearers were grandsons,
Edward and Robert Rudolph, Shawn Decker, and Jesse, Nicholas and
Billy Faude.
Joseph Erl was born December 27, 1914 at Brainard, Minn., to the
late Joseph and Edna (Carlson) Erl. He attended Holy Rosary
Parochial School and was a 1933 graduate of Medford High School.
His marriage to Delores M. Kriplean took place on July 27, 1946 at
Medford. She preceded him in death on September 22, 1984.
After his education, he spent time in the CCC Camps and was a
Veteran of WWII, having served in North Africa and Italy, and
awarded a Purple Heart medal. After the service, he farmed in the
Town of Browning and also worked at Hurd Millwork in Medford until
his retirement.
He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford,
Klossner-Dietzler VFW Post No. 5729 of Medford, Boxrucker-Berry
American Legion Post No. 519 of Stetsonville, and the Disabled
American Veterans.
Survivors include four daughters, Lucille (Edward) Rudolph,
Medford, Sharon Faude, Medford, Diane (Decker), Dorchester, and
Donna (Rock) Thums, Medford three sons, John (Barbara), Watertown,
Donald (Julene), Medford, and David (Mary), Dorchester 24
grandchildren seven step-grandchildren and 13
great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, John Steiner, and a
great-grandson, Lucas Henrichs.
