AUGUST PODOBNIK, GREENWOOD, DIES SUDDENLY
Services for August Podobnik, 71, Greenwood,
Clark County were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21 at the Rinka
Funeral Home, Greenwood. Burial was at the Holy Family Cemetery,
Willard, Clark County.
The Rev. Robert Houston officiated.
Mr. Podobnik died suddenly at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield, on
Thursday, Feb. 19, 1976.
Mr. Podobnik was born on Aug. 3, 1904 at Joliet, Ill. He attended
schools at Joliet. He was married to Therese Parkel on Feb. 19,
1927 at Willard.
They farmed in the Town of Hendren, Greenwood from 1927 1947. They
moved to Greenwood and operated a tavern until 1966. Prior to his
death he was a supervisor for Clark and Marathon County, with the
Green Thumb program for several years.
Pallbearers were Stanley Raik, Emil Podobnik, Mike Podobnik, Ernest
Arch, Nick Babich and Val Yurkovich.
Surviving are his wife and one daughter, Mrs. Tony (Bernie) Zupanc,
Loyal four sisters, Mrs. Joe (Eva) Bandosz, Joliet, Ill. Mrs. Gene
(Gert) Long, Chicago Mrs. Arnold (Theresa) Mendelson, Milwaukee
Mrs. Donald (Mary) Hatton, St. Paul two brothers, Michael,
Greenwood and Emil, Willard. He is also survived by two
grandchildren.
His parents, one sister and a son preceded him in death.

Podobnik, August (3 August 1904 – 19 February 1976)
August Podobnik, 71, Greenwood, died at the hospital in Marshfield at 5 a. m.
Thursday, February 19. He had been hospitalized there since January 6.
Mr. Podobnik was born August 3, 1904, in Joliet, Il., where he received his
education. He was married February 19, 1927, to the former Theresa Parkel at the
Holy Family Church in Willard. She survives.
They farmed in the Town of Hendren from 1927 to 1947, when they came to
Greenwood and were in the tavern business until 1966. Mr. Podobnik was a
supervisor for several years with the Green Thumb program, covering Clark and
Marathon Counties.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Tony (Bernie) Zupanc of
Loyal, four sisters, Mrs. Joe (Eva) Bandosz of Joliet, Il.; Mrs. Gene (Gert)
Long of Chicago, Mrs. Arnold (Theresa) Medelson of Milwaukee, and Mrs. Donald
(Mary) Hatton of St. Paul, Mn.; two brothers, Michael Podobnik of Greenwood, and
Emil Podobnik of Willard; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister and a son.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday from the Rinka Funeral Home in
Greenwood. The Rev. Robert B. Houston, pastor of St. Mary’s Catholic Church,
officiated. Burial was made in the Holy Family Cemetery in Willard.
Pallbearers were Stanley Raik, Emil Podobnik, Michael Podobnik, Ernest Arch,
Nick Bobich and Val Yurkovich.
