KATHERINE GERRITS (1915-2000)
Katherine (MARTHALER) Gerrits, 84, a resident
of Rutledge Home in Chippewa Falls and formerly of 5573 Easy
Street, Chippewa Falls, Town of Lafayette, passed away Thursday,
January 27, 2000, at the Rutledge Home.
She was born May 4, 1915, in Cadott, the daughter of John and
Elizabeth (TAGGERT) NELSON. She attended Cadott schools and
graduated from Cadott High School in 1933.
She married Alois MARTHALER on June 25, 1935, at St. Charles Church
in Chippewa Falls. They lived in Boyd until he passed away in
1962.
She then married George GERRITS at St. Joseph's Church in Boyd on
September 27, 1963. They later moved to the Lake Wissota area,
where they both were employed at the Northern Wisconsin Center for
the Developmentally Disabled until retiring in 1977. She was a
member of the Holy Ghost Church.
She especially loved to crochet and knit, was an avid bird lover,
and took great pride in her beautiful flower gardens.
She will be remembered as the "pretty lady" with the always-ready
smile, who will be sadly missed by her many friends and
relatives.
She is survived by one son, Eugene "Marty" (Patricia) MARTHALER of
Boyd two daughters, Marjorie (Gerald) RYKAL of Cadott and Karol Kay
(Darrel Wagener) STANGRET of Waconia, MN one brother, Raymond
(Arlene) NELSON of Cadott one sister-in-law, Doris NELSON of Cadott
two sisters, Mary WEBBER of Chippewa Falls and Violette PIERCE of
California 14 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her second husband, George GERRITS, on
April 13, 1993 her parents five brothers, Leonard, Lloyd, John,
Hiram, and Clifford NELSON one sister, Bernice HANSON and one great
grandson, Nathan ERICKSEN.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 29, at Holy Ghost
Church, Chippewa Falls. Reverend Edmund Doerre officiated. Music
during the Mass was provided by Judy Brist. A solo was sung by
Taylor STANGRET, granddaughter. Casket bearers wear six grandsons,
Doug RYKAL, Joel and Brian STANGRET, and Alan, Mike, and John
MARTHALER. Spring burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in
Boyd.
Horan Funeral Home in Chippewa Falls was in charge of the
arrangements.
