Edward George Gullord, M.D., 88, Verona, N.J., died Sept. 18, 1996, at Mountainsided Hospital, Montclair, N.J. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 7, 1996 at the Greenwood City Cemetery.

Edward George Gullord was born on Nov. 13, 1907, in Marshfield, to P. W. (Will) and Martha (nee Zettler) Gullord.

He received his education in Greenwood, graduating from Greenwood High School in 1925. He received a B.A. and M.A. degree from the University of Wisconsin. He received his M.D. from Harvard Medical School in 1933. He married Iva Speed Gullord of Louisville, Ky. In 1933. From 1936 - 1942, he was in private practice of medicine at Montclair, N.J. From 1942 - 1946, he was in the military service with Army Air Corp, as a flight surgeon with service in North Africa and the Middle East. He was commissioned 1st Lieutenant and discharge Major. He was awarded a Bronze Star for designing and perfecting a mobile desert cooler used to reduce temperatures within airplane cabins for wounded soldiers. Following his discharge from the Army, he returned to a private practice of medicine in Montclair, N.J., from 1948 - 1974, and from 1974 - 1994 in Bridgehampton, N.Y. He married June Alloway of Montclair, N.J. in 1967. In 1959, he appeared on the cover of Life magazine to launch a series entitled, You and Your Doctor . He received several awards for contributions to his profession and community.

Survivors include three daughters, Meredith Grey, California Anne Stires, New Jersey, and Mildred McCanless, North Carolina one step-daughter, Pat Kaveny one step-son, John Kaveny, California seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
