Mark Gumz (1961 - 2000)
Former Dorchester resident Mark Herbert Gumz, 38, Phillips, died
Sunday, March 12 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 16 at
Peace United Church of Christ, with Rev. Robert Everhard and Rev.
Kevin Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Dorchester
Memorial Cemetery, Clark county, WI. Pallbearers will be Craig
Davis, Doug Meyer, Bruce Gumz, Rick Eisner, Daryl Gumz, and Scott
Purgett. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Shotliff, David
Lueddecke, Brian Gumz, David Gumz, Rodney Gumz, Kurt Gumz, Dean
Gumz, and Duwayne Gumz.
Visitation will be held from 4-9 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15 at the
Maurina Funeral Home in Dorchester, and at the church on Thursday,
from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service.
Mark Gumz was born on July 21, 1961 at Marshfield to Herbert and
Mary Alice (Erickson) Gumz. He attended Colby High School.
His marriage to Karen Brecke took place on August 14, 1982, and
they had five children. They were later divorced. His marriage to
Rose Poncek took place on August 13, 1997, and they had one
daughter. He farmed with his family and did custom work for farmers
in the area. He moved to Phillips in December of 1999 and worked at
Phillips Plastics.
He enjoyed bow and rifle hunting, snowmobiling, and four
wheeling.
In addition to his parents and wife, survivors include six
children, Patrick, Patricia, Phillip, Patsy, Penny, and Janessa two
step-children, Sarah and Ben Poncek two sisters, Sandra (David)
Lueddecke, Abbotsford, and Donna (Scott) Purgett, Owen five
brothers, Dean and Kurt (Lori), both of Dorchester David, Eau
Claire, Daryl (Patricia), Loyal, and Rodney (Dawn), Athens and
grandmother, Martha Gumz, Abbotsford.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Herman Gumz and Louise
and James Erickson.
