MRS. HAZEL HELWIG
 

GREENWOOD Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Zion United Church of Christ here for Mrs. Hazel M. Helwig, 73, Greenwood, Clark County. She was found dead Thursday morning, Jan. 8, 1976 at her home by her son, Laverne Brown. Death was attributed to an apparent heart attack.


The Rev. David Logue, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.


Visitations may be made at the Rinka Funeral Home in Greenwood at 1 p.m. Sunday and at the church from 10:30 a.m. Monday until time of services.


The former Hazel Murphy was born March 18, 1902, in the Town of Weston, and received her education in the rural Greenwood schools. Her first marriage was in Jan. 1920 to Louis Brown, who preceded her in death in Feb. 1946.


She lived most of her life in Greenwood until her second marriage on Sept. 16, 1959 to Lester Helwig. The couple then lived in Eau Claire. Mr. Helwig died in Dec. 1966.


She was a member of the Greenwood American Legion Auxiliary and Zion United Church of Christ.


Survivors include a son, Laverne (Bud) Brown, Greenwood three step-daughters, Mrs. Irvin (Edna) Eleason, Eleva, Mrs. Alfred (Irene) Whilly, Salem, and Mrs. George (Jean) Chaput, Eau Claire two step-sons, Walter Helwig, Ardmore, Okla., and Russell Helwig, Milwaukee two brothers, Edward Murphy, Spokane, Wash., and Frank Murphy, Greenwood, and three grandchildren.


A brother also preceded her in death.

Helwig, Hazel M. (18 March 1902 – 8 January 1976)

Mrs. Hazel M. Helwig, 73, of Greenwood, was found dead on Thursday morning, January 8, by her son, Lawrence Brown at her home. Death was attributed to an apparent heart attack.

The former Hazel Murphy was born March 18, 1902, in the Town of Weston, and received her education in the rural Greenwood schools.

Her first marriage took place in January 1920, to Louis Brown, who died in February 1946.

She lived most of her life in Greenwood until her second marriage, to Lester Helwig. The couple then lived in Eau Claire. Mr. Helwig died in December 1966.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Greenwood, the Zion United Church of Christ and the Women’s Guild.

Survivors include a son, Laverne (Bud) Brown of Greenwood; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Irvin (Edna) Eleason, of Eleva, Mrs. Alfred (Irene) Whilly of Salem; and Mrs. George (Jean) Caput of Eau Claire; two stepsons, Walter Helwig of Ardmore, Ok.; and Russell Helwig of Milwaukee; two brothers, Edward Murphy of Spokane, Wa.; and Frank Murphy of Greenwood; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday from Zion United Church here. The Rev. David Logue, pastor, officiated. Burial was made in the Greenwood Cemetery.
