OBITUARY
Rebecca McIntyre Joscelyn was born in Steuben
County, New York, May 20, 1835, and died at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. Mary Hunt, Feb. 26, 1916, aged 80 years.
He father, John McIntyre was a pioneer Methodist exhorter, moved to
Wisconsin when she was fifteen years of age. They settled on a farm
near Columbus, Wis. Wile living there she was married to James
Joscelyn and in 1856 they moved with an ox team to Sparta, where
they settled on a piece of land and passed through all the
experiences of the early Wisconsin pioneer. With the exception of a
short residence in Sparta, she lived from that time until the death
of her husband on the farm which they originally settled on. Since
then she had made here home with her daughter, Mrs. Mary Hunt in
this City (Greenwood, Clark County).
Three children were born to them, Mrs. Mary Hunt, of this city, Mr.
Chas. Joscelyn, of Boston, and Mrs. Alice Ormsby of Chicago. Her
life was gentle, but like the still waters it was deep. In her
heart of hearts she carried those she loved, and her hand was never
weary, her step never failed in ministering unto, caring for,
waiting upon those who were in any way dependent on her.
The remains were conveyed to Sparta, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. C.
M. Hunt and Mrs. Alice Ormsby of Chicago, where a funeral service
was held and the body tenderly laid to rest by the side of her
husband in the Leon Valley Cemetery.
