Josephine Kangas (1916 - 2000)
Former Lublin resident Josephine Anna Kangas, 84, Owen, died
Sunday, March 12, at the Clark County Health Care Center in Owen,
where she had resided since 1986.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 17 at Holy
Rosary Catholic Church in Owen, with Rev. James Schaefer
officiating. Burial will be at the Riverside Cemetery in Withee.
Pallbearers will be Scott Kangas, Jay Kangas, Joe Stokosa, Louis
Stokosa, Anthony Filipiak, and John Szpara.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 16, at
Maurina Funeral Home in Owen, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
The former Josephine Stokosa was born on February 13, 1916, at the
Town of Roosevelt, to the late Joseph and Mary Ann (Hanula) Kangas.
She received her education and lived most of her life in the Town
of Roosevelt. She lived and worked in Chicago for a short time
until returning home to care for her mother. She then continued to
live on the home farm helping her father.
Her marriage to Jalmer Kangas, who died August 18, 1995, took place
on September 28, 1940 at Withee. They lived in Withee a short time
and then returned to farm in Lublin until 1965. She was employed at
the former Havenet Nursing Home in Owen as a kitchen helper and
cook. She retired in 1978.
She was a member of St. Stanislaus Church in Lublin. She enjoyed
gardening, baking, and playing cards.
Survivors include one daughter, Karen Kangas, Stanley one son,
Charles (Andrea), Owen one sister, Estelle Orians, Chicago, Ill.
and two grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death
by three brothers, Louie, Andrew, and Edward and four sisters,
Henrietta, Pauline, Mary, and Isadora.
