OBITUARY OF MRS. JOHN KOTSCH
Mrs. Caroline Kotsch, nee Gruhlke, was born
Feb. 1, 1852 near Linde, Provinz Westpreuseen, Germany. In 1878 she
was united in marriage to Carl Gappa. To this union were born four
children, Emil, Augusta, Paul and Emily. In 1895 Mrs. Gappa, with
her children, came to the United States, establish a new home at
Fairchild, Wis.
There in 1895 she entered into a second marriage with Mr. John
Kotsch, the owner of a farm. About nine years ago Mr. and Mrs. John
Kosch retired from the farm, removing to Greenwood, Clark County to
spend their remaining days with their daughter, Augusta, Mrs. Simon
Schwarze. Mr. Kotsch departed this life in Greenwood on Jan. 9,
1922.
Mrs. Kotsch reached the age of 78 years, 1 month and 17 days,
passing away on Tuesday eve, March 18, 1930, at 11:00 o'clock, the
cause of death being hardening of the arteries.
She leaves to mourn her departure four children, Emil Kotsch of
Stratford, Wis., Mrs. Simon Schwarze of this city, Paul Kotsch of
Albion, Mich., and Emily, Mrs. Jos. Zinsheim of Fairchild, Wis.,
besides a step-daughter, Mrs. Geo. Phillips of Malott, Wash., and
nineteen grandchildren.
A house service was conducted on Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Simon
Schwarze residence by Rev. Geo. Heilman, who based his words of
comfort on Heb. 13:14. Six grandsons of the departed acted as
pallbearers. The body was laid to rest in the Greenwood
Cemetery.
Relatives from out of town who were here for the funeral were John
Kotke of Eau Claire Mrs. M. Gruhlke, Mrs. Wm. Kotke, Mrs. Gus
Kotke, Miss Hulda Kotke, Henry Kotke, Mrs. Andrew Olson and Joe
Zingsheim and son, all of Fairchild and Emil Kotsch and family of
Stratford.
