Lesneski, Dorothy (1899 - 1999)
Dorothy Dora Lesneski, 100, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, July 9, 1999 at Oakbrook Manor in Thorp. She was born in Thorp on March 26, 1899, to Joseph and Mary (Kleckner) Sheblak. She grew up in a beautiful Victorian home built by her parents.
Dora graduated from Thorp High School in 1916, and then taught
school in Lublin for a number of years. In the 1920's she was
married to Michael Lesniewski and they eventually moved to
Milwaukee where they spent much of their married life.
Dora was a fine cosmetic sales lady and also sewed beautiful things
for a costume company. After Mike's death, she decided to return to
Thorp to be near her cousin Florence Telford and other cousins in
Eau Claire. She greatly enjoyed her years residing in Morgan Plaza
and for the last few years has been a resident of Oakbrook Manor
due to dementia problems.
Dora was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Mike, and
brother Frank.
She is survived by her second cousin Donald (Norma) Telford of Eau
Claire her guardian in recent years Carole Zaremba and nieces and
nephews in the Oconomowoc and Milwaukee area.
Funeral services were held at the Thorp Funeral Home on Tuesday,
July 13, 1999, 10:30 a.m. with Father John Puerner officiating.
Visitation preceded the service. Burial was at St. Bernard's
Cemetery.
Dora was an aristocratic looking lady with her long hair always
pulled back neatly. She loved to walk to keep her health up, and
enjoyed reading, sewing, and knitting. She made many booties and
bonnets for newborns in hospital, and was well known for the many
slippers, scarves and mittens she made for relatives, friends and
needy. She always had a smile on her face and never
complained.
