Richard G. "Dick" Marek (1930 - 2000)


Richard G. "Dick" Marek, 69, of Boyd passed away March 1, 2000, at Lakeside Nursing and Rehabilitation in Chippewa County.


He was born in Bloomer on July 21, 1930, the son of Richard and Marion (Hansen) Marek. He grew up there and attended area schools.


On March 27, 1951, he was united in marriage to Virginia Mayer at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Tilden. They lived in Bloomer for a short time before moving to Kenosha, where he worked for McAlear Auto Body and Turner Auto Body. He then worked at Schmitt Auto Body Shop in Waukegan, IL, until his retirement.


In 1991 they moved to Boyd, where they have lived since. Dick was a member of the VFW Post 1865 in Kenosha and was a member of the Boyd American Legion Post 326. He loved fishing, hunting, and midget car racing.


He is survived by his wife, Virginia of Boyd mother, Marion of Bloomer two sisters, Naomi (Marlyn) Much of Ladysmith and Carol (Paul) Hable of Bloomer three brothers, Douglas and Ronald, both of Bloomer, and Robert of Chippewa Falls plus many nieces, nephews, and aunts. He was preceded in death by his father and two sons in infancy.


Services were held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Boyd on Saturday, March 4, with Frequent. Robert Nelson presiding. The Boyd American Legion Post 326 served as pallbearers. Burial was at St. Paul's North Catholic Cemetery in Bloomer. Plombon Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
