Ethel Mattson (1908 - 1999)
Ethel Cora Mattson, 91, Owen, Clark County,
WI died Tuesday, Nov. 23 at Clark County Health Care Center in
Owen.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 27 at Holy Rosary
Catholic Church in Owen, with Rev. Al Jakubowski officiating.
Burial took place at Riverside Cemetery in Withee. Pallbearers were
Wayne Roohr, Dr. A. A. Jarvis, Mark Roohr, Eugene Zawadzki, Bill
Benzschawel, and Harold Laube.
Maurina Funeral Home in Owen assisted the family with
arrangements.
The former Ethel Cora Vetterkind was born February 12, 1908 at
Withee to the late Ernest and Augusta (Raether) Vetterkind. She
received her early education at the former Oak Dale School.
Her marriage to Stanley Zielanis took place in 1927 at St. Hedwig's
Catholic Church. They later divorced. She married Berlie Jennings,
who died in 1961. She then married Bill Mattson, who died in
1967.
She had been a tavern keeper and resort owner since 1933. She owned
and operated the Chipota Resort and the Windmill Resort, both in
Jim Falls the Sunbeam Tavern in Chippewa Falls the Lombard Store
and Tavern in Thorp and the Spot Bar in Owen. She retired in
1968.
She enjoyed gardening, traveling, refinishing furniture, and
knitting sweaters.
Survivors include one daughter, Lucille Zimmerman, Owen one sister,
Emily (Lawrence) Page, South Milwaukee one grandson one
granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.
In addition to her parents and two husbands she was preceded in
death by, three brothers, Charles, Arthur, and William and two
sisters, Ella Miller and Martha Devine.
