OBITUARY OF MRS. JENETTE MCCARTY
Mrs. Jenette Smith McCarty was born in
Chloratta, N.Y., June 27, 1850, and passed away at Greenwood, Clark
County, Wis., April 16, 1928, having reached the age of 77 years, 9
months and 19 days.
Her life was an eventful one. In infancy she came with her parents
from the state of New York to Jefferson County, Wis., where for
some years they experienced the joys and hardships of the pioneer
life. In her early girlhood she migrated with her parents to the
state of Minnesota, making the journey with an ox team, spending
many weeks on the road and getting many thrills out of the journey.
On arriving at their destination they again had the experiences of
the pioneer, passing through the threatened uprising of the
Indians, having to leave their home for a time and seeking safety
in a nearby town.
Some years later they again moved to Wisconsin, settling in Clark
County, where on Jan. 1, 1872, she was united in marriage to John
McCarty, who preceded her in death, June 19, 1927. Soon after their
marriage they made they home at Longwood where they have resided
the greater part of their lives, again passing thru the experiences
of the pioneer.
Mrs. McCarty was a kind and loving wife and mother. During her last
sickness she was patient and uncomplaining, always thinking of
others, her great concern being for her family and her friends. She
felt very keenly the loss of Mr. McCarty.
Her faith in her God was steadfast. She had a desire to live and
yet was reconciled to depart.
She leaves to mourn her loss, two sons, Almon of Longwood and
Haskell of Rock Island, Ill., and one daughter, Mrs. Dora Bowen of
Shortville, Wis., also ten grandchildren and many friends.
Funeral services were held from the local M.E. Church last
Wednesday afternoon, Rev. D.S. Householder officiating. The body
was laid to rest in the Greenwood Cemetery.
