HERMAN METZKE
Herman Metzke, 72, Greenwood, Clark County, died Saturday, Jan. 9,
1988 at 6:40 a.m. at St. Joseph's Hospice Unit, Marshfield. Funeral
services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1988 at Trinity
Lutheran Church, Greenwood, with Tom Garrison officiating. Burial
was in the Greenwood Cemetery.
Herman Metzke was born Dec. 15, 1915 in Stratford to William and
Martha (nee Reckner) Metzke. He was educated in Stratford schools.
On Oct. 26, 1936 he and Veran Albrecht were married in Stratford.
In 1937 they moved to Greenwood. He worked for Mid-State Cheese
Corp. from 1935-57, and then worked for Clark Electric as a janitor
until 1977, when he retired. His wife died June 13, 1968. On Aug.
30, 1969, he and Violet Franz were married in Greenwood. She
survives.
Metzke was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was alderman in
the city of Greenwood. He served as a volunteer fireman in the city
of Greenwood for 41 years.
Surviving, along with his wife, Violet, are three sons, James of
Greenwood, John of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Michael of Roseville,
Minn. two daughters, Mrs. William (Marlene) Marks, Milwaukee and
Mrs. Glendon (Joan) Fischer, Wis. Rapids six grandchildren and one
brother, Harry Metzke, Stratford. He was preceded in death by his
first wife, his parents, two great-grandchildren, two brothers, one
sister and one half-brother.
Rinka Funeral Home, Greenwood, was in charge of the
arrangements
