DEATH OF SIDNEY E. MORSE


Sidney E. Morse, one of the oldest residents of this county passed away at his home in this community Tuesday morning, Sept. 1, age nearly 74 years. His health had been declining for some time and he gradually grew weaker till the end came.


Sidney Morse was born on a farm in New York State, Sept. 5, 1851, being a son of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Morse. He grew up there on the farm and when ...of age came with his parents to this country. His father bought land about eight miles. . (missing text) of Neillsville..................a fine brick house and good barn, silo and other out buildings. He was a successful farmer and stock raiser and had one of the best orchards in the county. He took an active part in public affairs, and served several years as school district treasurer, and as town officer, served as town treasurer, clerk, assessor and supervisor. He was a man of sterling character, a helpful neighbor, a kind husband and father and a good man in the community. He was also a faithful member of the Methodist Church.


He is survived by his aged wife and two sons and three daughters Alonzo on the home farm, Orson in Oregon Mrs. Mary Sischo, Salem, Oregon Mrs. Grace West, Christie and Mrs. Olive Klech, Abbotsford. He leaves a half-brother, Haven F. Morse of Portland, Oregon and a half-sister, Mrs. Bessie Sischo of Greenwood, also 15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. The funeral was held at the Methodist Church Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. Wm. Walder officiating--Neillsville Press
