A FORMER GREENWOOD RESIDENT DIES
In a letter from Miss Ethel Newton of Woodburn, Ore., written to
Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Hendren she states that her mother died Feb. 15,
1916. The obituary is a clipping from their home paper: Mrs.
Francelia Newton was born in Orben, Fond du Lac County, Wis., in
1859. When a little girl she moved with her parents to Brown
County, and a few years later to Clark County, Wis. On Oct. 27,
1881, she was married to Oliver D. Newton in Neillsville, Wis. Mr.
and Mrs. Newton move to Oregon in 1903, arriving in Oswego, June
13. The following April they moved to Woodburn, making this their
home.
To them were born two children, Caroline Lillian, who preceded her
mother five years ago next April, and Gertrude Ethel, who, with her
father and little nephew, Fenton Newton, still survive. She also
leaves one brother and five sisters to mourn her demise.
Mrs. Newton was a noble Christian, a kind and loving wife, mother
and sister, always doing what she could for those who needed
her.
Shed died Feb. 15, 1916 at the home of her sister, Mrs. J. K. Gow,
to whom she was ministering when stricken with apoplexy, from which
she never recovered, the end coming within an hour .
