WAYNE NITZ (1926 - 2000)

Wayne. C. NITZ, 73, of Stanley passed away January 2, 2000, at Victory Medical Center.

He was born February 3, 1926, in Chippewa County to Charles and Merle (GLOVER) Nitz.

He grew up in the Town of Worden and, in his early teens, worked with his father in the woods and at the sawmill.

He enlisted in the US Army in 1943 and served in the South Pacific. He received the Asian Pacific Theater Ribbon and one Bronze Battle Star, the Victory medal, the Good Conduct medal, a Meritorious Unit Award, the Army of Occupation of Japan medal, and two Overseas Service Bars.

After his discharge in 1946, he worked as a mason and as a Chippewa County Highway Patrolman.

He was united in marriage to Ila Mae EMLING in 1948 in Loyal. He built their home in Stanley, later selling it and buying a farm south of Stanley. He farmed there until retirement.

Wayne was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting, making maple syrup, and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by his family and the Renegade will never be the same without him. However, he'll be there in spirit so "Watch it, guys "

He is survived by his wife, Ila Mae of Stanley two daughters, Janice NITZ of Stanley and Julie (Terry) SCHEIDLER of Cadott five sons, Wayne Jr. (Bernardine) of Neenah, David (Joan) of Thorp, Daniel (Judy) of Stanley, Richard (Lucy) of Stanley, and Timothy (Lori) of Stanley a foster son, Jimmy (Kelly) COPENHAVER of Stanley 24 grandchildren six step grandchildren six great grandchildren a sister, Fern (Vernon) LAMARCHE of Stanley and two brothers, Alvin (Wanda) of Green Bay and Herbert (Joanne) of Meridian, ID.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, and one sister, Florence.

Funeral services were January 4 at the Plombon Funeral Home in Stanley. Pastor Robert Wilken officiated. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery, Stanley, with the Stanley VFW Post 2711 conducting military graveside rites.

Plombon Funeral Home of Stanley was in charge of the arrangements.
