Nowak, Lorraine (1926 - 1999)
Lorraine S. Nowak, age 73, of Rice Lake, WI, died Thursday, April 8, 1999 at the Rice Lake Convalescent Center.
Lorraine was born on March 30, 1926 to Walter and Stephanie (Kara)
Lewandowski in Chicago, IL where she grew up and attended Holy
Innocents Parochial School. She then attended Saint Colmcille
Commerce School of Business and after finishing her course work,
went to work for the Zenith Corporation in Chicago during the war
years. After the war she moved to Lublin, WI and went to work as a
bookkeepper in accounting for the Blue Moon Cheese Company in
Thorp, WI. On September 23, 1951 she married Leonard Nowak at Thorp
and they then moved to Colorado Springs. She later returned to
Thorp and continued working for the Blue Moon Cheese Company until
she and her husband moved to Rice Lake and continued work as a
bookkeeper for various businesses in Rice Lake. When Wisconsin Gas
Company went to Rice Lake in the early 60 s, she went to work for
the company as a bookkeeper until a car accident caused her to quit
work and become a homemaker and do bookkeeping on a part-time
basis.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Parish a member of the
Catholic Council of Women member of the V.F.W. Women's Auxiliary,
Rice Lake Post 2204 and served as the chairwoman for the Voice of
Democracy member of the Rice Lake Senior Citizens organizer of the
Polish Eagles in Rice Lake member of the Rice Lake Friends of the
Library she also enjoyed watching TV and working with people
through the organizations that she belonged to.
She is survived by her husband one daughter, Catherine (Gary) Zabel
of Rice Lake one son, Jeffrey (Lorie) Nowak of Rice Lake and one
brother, John Lewandowski of Thorp, WI.
Funeral service for Lorraine Nowak was held Tuesday, April 13, 1999
from St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rice Lake with Father Kevin
Gordon officiating with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Jarocki
Funeral Home, Rice Lake and Cremation Service in Rice Lake was in
charge of all arrangements.
