HERBERT OLSON (1911 - 1991)
Herbert H. Olson, 80, New London, a former
under sheriff of Clark County, died Saturday, June 15, 1991, at the
Appleton Medical Center.
Services were held Tuesday, June 18 at 11 a.m. at the First
Congregational United Church of Christ in New London with the Rev.
Luke Bocher officiating. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery at
Greenwood, Clark County.
He was born June 4, 1911 in Chicago, and grew up on the family farm
near Greenwood. He served as under sheriff of Clark County under
his father, Herman Olson, in the 1930's and 40's. He was a
Lieutenant Civilian of the National Guards at Truax Field in
Madison.
He married the former Marie Manier July 27, 1931 in Chicago. She
died in January of this year.
In 1945, he moved to New London where he opened the Coast to Coast
store there and operated it until his retirement in 1977. He was a
past president of the New London Chamber of Commerce and was very
active in community activities. He was a founder and past
vice-president and director of the New London National Bank and
served as Director Emeritus of the F M Bank, New London.
He was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ
in New London.
He is survived by a daughter, Marleen VandenHoogen, Appleton three
grandchildren a brother Roy E. Olson, Sr., Loyal three sisters,
Arline Lewis, Sauk Rapids, Minn. Ruth Sugg and Lois Guest, both of
Neillsville. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by his parents
and one sister.
