Opelt, Phoebe Sternitzky (1870 - 1934)

Mrs. MAX OPELT of Levis passed away at the Sacred Heart hospital in Eau Claire Saturday at eleven o'clock p.m. Dec. 8, 1934. She underwent an operation for gall stones on Wednesday, which was followed by pneumonia.

Phebe Saraphina STERNITZKY had reached the age of 64 years, 7 months, and 8 days. She was born at Lynn, May 1st, 1870, the youngest daughter of Charles and Kate STERNITZKY. Here she grew to womanhood. On Nov. 18, 1891 she was united in marriage to Max OPELT at her parental home. They operated a general store at Lynn for 11 years. They moved on a farm at Levis now owned by Max Opelt jr., where they still lived. To this union 8 children were born, two of whom died in infancy and one little girl died when three and a half years of age. Surviving are her husband Max Opelt of Levis, five children Lillian, Mrs. Paul MARTIN of Levis Martha, Mrs. Louis LAUTENBACH of Levis Arthur, Carl and Max Jr. of Levis together with 18 grandchildren, a brother Wm. STERNITZKY and a sister, Mrs. John MARTIN of Lynn. Mrs. Opelt will be remembered as a loving kind affectionate woman, a loving mother. She was a kind neighbor and friend to all. She had a kind word and a smile for all. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. from Lowes funeral home at Neillsville with Rev. Paul WHITE officiating. Interment at the Lynne cemetery. Pallbearers were Joseph, Leo, Raymond, Carl, Louis and Rudolph STERNITZKY. Flower girls, Doris and Elain MARTIN and Nona and Ione DANKEMEYER.
