Obituary of Andrea Peterson
Mrs. Elias Peterson a pioneer resident of this city quietly passed
away at her home on Main street, last Friday morning at 2 o'clock.
Deceased was of foreign birth and came to this country from her
home at Trondhjem, Norway, when a young woman. She was born near
that city on March 4th, 1834 where she passed her childhood days.
Growing into womanhood she was united in marriage to Elias
Peterson. Eleven years later she came to America to join her
husband who had preceeded her to this country two years. They
settled first at Neillsville and in 1872, moved to Greenwood, where
she resided up to death. Six children, Mrs. Mary Larson, P.E.
Peterson, Mrs. Ole Johnson, Mrs. Simon Johnson, Mrs. John Dyre,
Mrs. Wm. Hogue and a husband survive her. She also leaves
twenty-seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and a
sister, Mrs. B. Johnson of Ashland.
After a long, busy and useful life she died as she had
lived-honored, trusted and loved. She reared her own monument while
she lived in the hearts of all who knew her. Her life was completed
if work all done and well done constitutes completion. Her
Christian life was beautiful from its beginning to its close, and
through all the vicissitudes and sorrows that she met in the way,
her faith in God never wavered.
Our little city and its hospitable people ever held a warm corner
in her heart. It was here the best days of her life were spent and
when her last hour came and God of eternity called her to her
everlasting rest, it was her desire that beneath the shady trees of
our Silent City, on its sloping hillsides, surrounded, by the
beauty, happiness and contentment of our people, where the flowers
are sweetest and the birds warble their most melodious songs,
should be the eternal abiding place of all that was mortal of
hers.
Funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church last Tuesday
afternoon, Rev. S. Benson of Eleva officiating.
