OBITUARY OF OLE A. PETERSON
From the Greenwood Gleaner and from the scrapbook of Mrs. Andrews,
former librarian of The Greenwood Public Library, Greenwood,
Wisconsin (Clark County) .
Ole Andrew Peterson was born in Norway, June 12, 1846, and was
confirmed the 7th day of October, 1880 at the age of 14 years. He
came to America when a young man and stopped at Black River Falls,
later moving to Neillsville where he worked at making boots and
shoes, and built the first shoe shop in Neillsville.
In 1870 he was united in marriage to Olive Isaacson. There was born
to this union six children, Maria, Albert, Peter, Edward, Isabelle
and Oliver. Peter and Oliver died in infancy. On August 2, 1879 his
wife died, leaving him with four small children.
In 1881 he moved to Greenwood still following the shoemakers'
trade. Later he purchased sixty-two acres of land in the Town of
Eaton and with the help of his two sons, Albert and Edward, they
made themselves a home. Albert now owns the farm and his father has
made his home with him for several years. Mr. Peterson passed away
Monday morning, August 13, 1934 at the age of 88 years.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, Rev.
Asberg, officiating and the body was taken to Neillsville for
burial and laid to rest beside his wife and two children who died
several years ago.
He leaves to mourn his loss, two sons, Albert of Greenwood, Wis.
and Edward of Epping, North Dakota two daughters, Mrs. I. Jolivette
and Mrs. Robert Mc Connell, both of Greenwood, fourteen
grandchildren, and several nephews and nieces, fifteen great
grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Out of town relatives and friends attending the funeral were:
Edward Peterson of Epping, N.D., Oscar Johnson of Corinth, N.D.,
Carl Christoferson of Wild Rose, N.D., Mr. and Mrs. John Charles,
Carl Hanson and Mrs. Lottie Jensen of Neillsville, Wis., Mrs.
Myrtle Anderson of Cadott, Wis., Raymond Jolivette of Owen, Wis.,
Ed Jolivette of Abbotsford, Wis. and Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Hubert of
Spencer, Wis.
Another old settler has been laid to rest and with his passing we
recall all the hardships he underwent to make our community what it
is today. Mr. Peterson was a man well liked by all who knew him and
he will be missed by many friends as well as by his
relatives.
