HOMER ROOT DIES AT OWEN


Homer M. Root, passed away at the Clark County hospital, at 8:00 o'clock Sunday eve, May 29, 1938, where he has made his home since April 25th. He would have been 92 years old on June 22. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the Lowe funeral home Rev. G. W. LONGNECKER officiated. The remains will be cremated as Mr. Root wished and the ashes will be buried in the local cemetery.


Mr. Root was born June 22, 1846 on a farm in Guilford township, Chenango county, NY. He came west in 1869 with the intention of teaching school but changed his mind and entered the lumbering business and in 1874 formed a partnership with B. F. Thompson and during the next 11 years logged off about 55,000,000 feet of pine lumber.


He also developed a farm in the town of Eaton and served as clerk for 10 years. He was also County Clerk for 8 years, Register of Deeds, and Supervisor of the second ward of Neillsville for 18 years.


He was married to Mrs. Mary J. HUNTZINKER in survived by two step-children Frederick HUNTZINGER of Fresno, Calif., and Victor E. Huntzinger of Milwaukee.
