OBITUARY OF MRS. HIRAM SHIELDS
Caroline Odgers was born in Mineral Point,
Wis, Sept. 11, 1854 and passed away at her home in Greenwood, Clark
County, Wis. at 7:30 a.m. Feb. 12, 1930, at the age of 76 years, 5
months. She lived in Mineral Point until a young woman, coming to
Greenwood when it was but a small village of a few houses.
She was united in marriage to Hiram Shields April 11, 1880. To this
union were born four children, Etta, now Mrs. Fred Griner of
Watertown, S.D, Richard, Chester and Isadore of Greenwood,
Wisconsin.
Mrs. Shields has lived in Greenwood and vicinity many years, she
and her husband being among the first settlers. She has made many
friends during the years and has been loved by all who knew her.
She was of a very retiring disposition and a great lover of home,
finding great joy in being a homemaker, giving to her home the
touch of love that only a mother and a devoted wife can give.
Hers was the quiet life, devoted to the ministry of kindly deeds
and loving words of comfort and of good cheer. The giving of the
cup of water in the Master's name, that does not lose its reward.
The little thing that only a mother can think of.
Besides her husband, children and other relatives, she leaves a
host of friends who will ever remember her kindly ministry and
mourn her passing.
Grace is deceitful and beauty in vain
But a woman that feareth Jehovah shall be praised.
Giver her of the fruit of her hand
And let her works praise her in the gates.
Funeral services were held from the M. E. Church Friday, Feb. 14,
1930, Rev. D.S. Householder officiating. The body was laid to rest
in the Greenwood Cemetery.
