MICHAEL SIMON DIES IN NEBRASKA
Michael Simon, for many years a resident of
this vicinity and owner of a farm northwest of Greenwood, Clark
County, died in Stockville, Nebrask, March 30th, 1927. The
following was taken from the Hobrook, Nebraska, Observers.
Michael Simon was born Oct. 13, 1851, near Christiana, Norway and
departed this life at the home of his sister, Mrs. Sarah Van Pelt,
in Stockville, Nebraska, March 30, 1927, age Seventy five years,
five months and seventeen days.
In 1857, with his parents, he migrated to America, where they
settled on a farm in Dane County, Wis., later moving to Iowa County
of that state, where he grew to manhood and continued to reside
until 1904, when he located on a farm eight miles northwest of
Greenwood, in Clark County, Wisconsin.
He was educated in the rural schools and also in the city school at
Monroe, Wis. In 1875 he began his service as a teacher in the
public schools, which service continued for many years. He was
never married and always live a quiet life. He was a member of the
Norwegian Lutheran Church and his dependable Christian character
and life is known by all.
Michael Simon was one of a family of seven children, and those
surviving him are, one brother, Ole Simon of Holbrook, Nebraska and
two sisters, Mrs. Amanda Waits of Holbrook, Neb., and Mrs. Sarah
Van Pelt of Stockville, Neb. three brothers preceding him, Peter
Simon in 1886 Nels Simon in 1918 and John Simon in 1925. Owing to
failing health, he was brought to Holbrook last September, where he
was cared for at the home of his brother until January, when he was
taken to the home of his sister in Stockville.
He leaves a host of friends here and in communities where he spent
his career, who will share with his relatives in the common loss
occasioned by his demise.
Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon in Deer Creek
Norwegian Lutheran Church by the pastor, Rev. A. O. Borlaug, and
the body was laid to rest in Deer Creek Lutheran Cemetery.
