Abbotsford -- Elsie L. Steele, 91, Abbotsford, died at 11:20 Saturday (October 28, 1989) at Victory Memorial Nursing Home, Stanley.


Services will be at 1pm Tuesday at Christ Lutheran Church, Abbotsford, with the Rev. Daniel Ahrens officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery, North Green Grove.


Grandsons, Jerry, Larry, Terry, and James Marten and Gary and Danny Bunkelman, will serve as pallbearers.


Visitation will be at Maurina Funeral Home, Abbotsford, after 4pm today.


She was born March 23, 1897, in Fox Lake, to the late John and Maria Schmidt.


She was married to William Marten Dec. 13, 1916. He died in August 1939. Her second marriage was to Arthur Steele, and he also predeceased her.


She was employed as a clerk for Abbotsford Hardware Co. for many years and had been a resident of Abbotsford for 60 years. She had resided at the nursing home for the past 1.5 years.


She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Abbotsford, and was a former member of its Ladies Aid.


She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Raymond (Mable) Bunkelman of Chippewa Falls three sons, Eugene Marten of Loyal, Bill Marten of Stanley and Dewaine Marten of Beaver Dam three half brothers, Omar Schmidt of Racine and Elmer and Ervine Schmidt, both of Beaver Dam 16 grandchildren 41 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.


She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Lorraine Kobs and Elnor Marten two sisters, Lydia Winters and Lillian Lidtke and one half brother, Wilbert Schmidt.
