ROBERT STEWART
 

Robert A. Stewart, 92, Greenwood, Clark County, died Thursday, May 14, 1992, at Neillsville Memorial Hospital, Neillsville. Funeral services were held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 16, 1992, at Grace United Methodist Church, Greenwood. Rev. Bruce Bartel of Eau Claire and Rev. Ronald Stelzleni officiated. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery.


Grandsons served as pallbearers and Greenwood American Legion members served as honorary pallbearers. Tennes Narestad performed Taps.


Robert A. Stewart was born March 25, 1900, in Ipswich, S.D., to Michael Stewart and Hanna Krucker. He received his education at Abbotsford schools. He was the eighth graduate of La Salle Institute where he majored in accounting. He married Minnette Thompson June 20, 1922 in Abbotsford. She preceded him in death Feb. 13, 1975. He worked as a cheese maker in Mellen Cheese Coop, and also owned and operated a farm in Highbridge. They move to Withee in 1945, where he worked with his brothers in the Redville Dairy. In 1946, they moved to Greenwood, where he and his brother formed the Stewart Cheese Coop, where he managed the packaging and shipping department until his retirement in 1962. He was a WW I veteran. He recently received recognition from the French government for his service in WW I. He was a member of the Greenwood American Legion, Grace United Methodist Church, a past member of the Coria School Board and the Greenwood School Board from 1949 to 1957. He served as the chairman of the board and treasurer for the church for many years. He had been a resident at Neillsville Memorial Home since January.


Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Mary Lou) Decker, Greenwood and Mrs. Gary (Helen) Rohde, River Falls three sons, Lloyd Stewart, Amarillo, Texas Duane Stewart, Locust Grove, Va. and Keith Stewart, Grafton three brothers, Wilbur, Greenwood Arthur, Withee and Oral, Milwaukee 39 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, five grandchildren, two sisters, Hazel and Mamie two sons, Robert T. Stewart Jr. and Glenn M. Stewart and one daughter, Kathryn Minnette.


Rinka Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
