OBITUARY OF JOHN WESLEY
SYTH
John Wesley Syth was born in London Township, Canada, April 13, 1864.
In 1870, together with his parents, he came to Clark County,
Wisconsin, where they settled two miles south of what is now
Greenwood. At that time Greenwood consisted of two small log
stores, one being a store and post office. There was also a logging
and grist mill located west of the Schofield place.
As time went on they cleared small patches of land for the building
of their log house and barns and the growing of their crops,
building up the farm that now belongs to Robert Syth.
In 1886 he was united in marriage to Minnie Cummins of La Crosse,
Wis. To this union six children were born, William, Ray, Hazel,
Thomas, Clifford and Harold. A few years after their marriage he
cleared and made the farm now owned by Will Syth. Here he lived
until the year 1910.
In the spring of 1910, he moved to Girard, Mont., with his family.
Here he made his home until the time of his death.
For the last few years he had been failing in health until May 16,
when he became suddenly ill with influenza. He was taken to the
hospital at Sidney, Mont., and although all medical aid and care
possible were given him, all was in vain. He passed away Friday,
May 18,1928.
He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, six children, five of who
live at Girard, Mont., and Mrs. Louis Stoneburg of Greenwood, two
brothers, Robert and William, also of Greenwood and 23
grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Sidney for those out there Monday,
May 21st.
The remains were brought to Greenwood for burial, services being
held at the M. E. Church at two o'clock Thursday, May 24. Rev.
Lambright of Neillsville officiated. The body was laid to rest in
the Greenwood Cemetery.
