OBITUARY
Mrs. Sarah Syth died at the home of her son
John, two miles south of the city, on Saturday, Sept. 5, 1914. For
years she had been an invalid and suffered a great deal. During the
past six years she had not walked and had been in bed for three
years past.

married to Thomas Syth, whose death occurred in 1904. After their
marriage they moved from Canada to West Salem, Wisconsin, where
they lived a short time before moving to Greenwood forty-six years
ago. The family settled on the old farm where Mrs. Syth lived and
died.
Three children were born to this union, John and Robert Syth of
this city and Mrs. Mike O'Connell of Butternut. Besides these
children she leaves to mourn her loss one brother, John Shanks of
this city. Deceased was seventy years of age.
Furneral services were held Wednesday afternoon, from the
Presbyterian Church, Rev. W. T. Hendren officiating, assisted by
Rev. Anderson of the Twenty-six Road Chapel. Interment was made in
the Greenwood Cemetery. Note: Sarah (Shanks) Syth was the daughter
of Hugh and Mary (Galloway) Shanks, natives of Ireland. See
biography of John Gamble Shanks.
