Doris Thomas
(1932 - 1999)
Doris J. Zuther Thomas, 67, Indianapolis, Ind., died Thursday, Nov. 11 at Community Hospital North Hospice Unit in Indianapolis.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 13 at Cross and Crown
Lutheran Church. A burial service was held the following day with
Revs. Paul Borg and Ken Garazin officiating. Interment took place
at Woodlawn Cemetery at Forest Park, Ill.
Leppert and Hensley Mortuary of Indianapolis assisted the family
with arrangements.
The former Doris Zuther was born February 28, 1932 to the late
Arnold and Olga (Vircks) Zuther at Athens. She attended Dorchester
High School.
Her marriage to Frank C. Samek took place on June 7, 1952 at
Cicero, Ill. where they resided until their divorce. Following a
second marriage to Jay Thomas, she lived for a time in Lincoln,
Neb., then relocated to Indianapolis where she lived the remainder
of her life. She was reunited with her first husband, who survives,
in 1998.
She worked for the law firm of McHale, Cook and Welch as a legal
administrator. In 1982 she founded the Registry, a permanent and
temporary placement service for law firms in Indianapolis.
She was a member of Cross and Crown Lutheran Church. She served as
president of the Indiana Legal Administrators and Indiana
Association of Personnel Consultants, of which she was currently
treasurer. She's in "Who's Who in Executives and Professionals" and
was a member of the Indianapolis Athletic Club. She presented
several workshops and seminars for the Indiana and Indianapolis Bar
Associations, the Chamber of Commerce, and various schools.
Survivors include: two sons, Steven (Linda) Samek, Wheaton, and
Philip (Nancy) Samek, Columbia, S.C. one daughter, Gayle Samek,
Indianapolis one brother, Norman (Mary Ann) Zuther, Fort Collins,
Colo. two sisters, Dorothy (Robert) Schumacher, Dorchester, and
Adeline (Don) O'Shoney, Elkton, Ky. six grandchildren and 14 nieces
and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one infant
daughter.
