Was Early Pioneer and Logged Ties Used in Building Wis.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist
Episcopal church in Colby for the lated Francis Marion Tuttle, aged
85, pioneer farmer and lumberman of Clark county, who died Saturday
afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fred Olson, after an
illness of four months due to old age. The Rev. S. E. Bushendorf
officiated and burial followed in the Colby cemetery. The
pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased and were Lawrence and
Byron Olson, Francis and Claude Tuttle, Oscar Belker and Ewald
Schwarze.
The deceased was born in Fond du Lac county, February 5, 1848, and
came to the town of Colby, Clark county, in 1871. He was married to
Miss Barbara Shanks on October 17, 1870, and she died in July,
1927. Surviving them are nine of their ten children, Tom Tuttle of
Marshfield Frank Tuttle of Colby Mrs. Myrtle Olson of Neillsville
Mrs. Louisa Fisher of Black River Falls Roy of Beach, N.D. Mrs.
Martha Gallagher and Lincoln Tuttle of Oregon, Wis, Mrs. Sarah
Olson of Cherokee and Edwin Tuttle of Duluth, Minn. He is survived
by a brother, Sherman Tuttle of Milwaukee, a sister, Mrs. Jamie
Odchisk of Campbellsport, by thirty-six gandchildren and thirty-six
great grandchildren.
Mr. Tuttle logged the ties used in building the track for the old
Wisconsin Central railroad through Colby and logged many winters
while he operated a farm in the town of Colby. He lived here until
recent years when he made his home with his daughter at Cherokee.
He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.
Those attending the funeral from out of town were his daughters,
Mrs. Martha Gallager, Oregon, Wisconsin, Mrs. Myrtle Olson,
Neillsville, Mrs. Louise Fisher of Black River Falls and sons, Tom
of Marshfield and Lincoln of Oregon his nephew, Bill Tuttle of
Wausau: Claude and Francis Tuttle and their mother, Mrs. Tom
Tuttle, of Marshfield and Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Casler of Blair Mr.
and Mrs. Harold Van Cordon of Alma Center Mr. and Mrs. Neal
Duksberry of Black River Falls, and Mr. and Mrs. Ewald Schwarze of
Black River Falls.
