OBITUARY OF WM. F.
VOLK
Wm. F. Volk was born Feb. 4, 1882 at Amorbach, Bavaria, Germany, the son of John and Josephine Volk. He was confirmed on April 1, 1894 and came to America when 15 years old.
He spent about a year with his oldest brother Frank at Rockford,
Ill. Before coming to Greenwood, Clark County, where he learned the
tailor trade of his older brother Jacob. After his brother Jacob
died in 1912 he and his brother Val became partners, continuing the
business under the firm name as Volk Bros.
On Nov. 19, 1910 he was united in marriage to Miss Caroline
Wehrman. Mr. Volk always enjoyed good health until last winter,
when he complained about a pain in his left shoulder, which
gradually grew worse. On June 13, her entered St. Joseph's Hospital
at Marshfield, but he gradually grew weaker until Tuesday morning,
June 21, 1932, when he quietly passed away at 8:15 a.m., having
reached the age of 50 years, 4 months and 17 days.
He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, three brothers, Frank and
Henry of Milwaukee and Val of Greenwood, two sisters, Mrs. Anna
Scharf of Milwaukee and Mrs. Theresa Hough of Byemoor, Alberta,
Canada, and many other relatives and a host of friends.
The funeral was held from the local Reformed Church Saturday
afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, the Rev. E.G. Pfeiffer officiated.
The floral offerings were wonderful and so numerous that they were
difficult to arrange about the casket. The pallbearers were Adolph
Schwarze, Adolph Meyer, C. C. Hoehne, Albert Schwarze, W. E. Hubble
and Dr. A. J. Currie. The flower girls were Dorothy and Lorraine
Schwarze, Betty Currie and Celia Schwarze.
The fact that the church was filled to capacity is the best
testimony of the esteem in which Mr. Volk was generally held. The
community has lost in him a man kindly, honest, honorable and
dependable, respected by all who knew him, a man who preferred to
see the good in people rather than to criticize the evil.
Relatives from away who were here for the funeral included Henry
Volk, Frank Volk, Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Frank Volk, Jr., Mr. and Mrs.
Joe Volk, Mrs. Anna Scharf, Mrs. John Volk and Joe Garrod of
Milwaukee Rug Buker, Rhinelander Mr. and Mrs. Perry Volk, Loyal Mr.
and Mrs. A. A. Volk, Allen Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Weins and Mrs. A.
Weins, Sheboygan Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Hanvann, Plymouth Mr. and Mrs.
Fred Gosse, Cleveland Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Gosse and Mr. and Mrs.
