Mary M. (Schmidt) Volland, 81, of Auburndale, died April 25, 2001, in the Palliative Care Unit at St. Joseph's Hospital.


Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Hansen Funeral Chapel. The Rev. David Dahlke will officiate. William Allen will sing and Maldon Plank will be the organist.


Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Marshfield. Mary's grandsons will serve as pallbearers.


Visitations will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Monday at the Hansen Funeral Home.


Mary was born Jan. 18, 1920 in the town of Spencer to Paul and Elnor (nee Greschner) Fitzel. She attended Upham, town of Frankfort and Edgar High schools. She married Elmer Schmidt Sept. 15, 1937, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Marshfield.


Mary Volland worked at Weinbrenner Shoe Factory for 20 years. She enjoyed making quilts for world relief and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Auburndale. She loved spending time crocheting, knitting, gardening and with other craftwork.


She married William Volland Feb. 18, 1984, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Marshfield.


Mary is lovingly survived by her husband Bill one daughter, Joanne (Donald) Melander of Unity one son, Ronald (Renna) Schmidt of Wilmington, Del. four stepdaughters, Diane (John) Nowak of Spencer, Sharon (Stan) Ratsch of Neillsville, Barbara (LeRoy) Johnson of Neillsville and Judy (Charles) Johnson of Neillsville two stepsons, William Volland, Jr. and Thomas Volland, both of Granton 11 grandchildren, 15 step-grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 15 step-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.


Mary will be sadly missed by all her family and many, many friends.


She was preceded in death by her parents husband Elmer Schmidt on March 30, 1978 one grandchild, Ronald John Schmidt and two brothers, Ben and Adam Fitzel.


A memorial will be established in her name at a later date.
