LEO C. BURGESS


Leo C. Burgess, 82, formerly of 311 Grand Avenue, Neillsville, Clark County, passed away at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 1, 1977 at Neillsville Memorial Home.


He was born Nov. 9, 1894, and lived his younger life near Waukon, Iowa. He served with the United States Infantry in Europe during World War I.


He and his first wife, Rosena, lived near Caledonia, Minn., where they raised a foster son, Dick Stone. She passed away there in January 1949.


He married Olga Amundson Burgess in Aug. 1950, at Orfordville, Wis. They lived in the Neillsville area for the past 17 years.


He is survived by his wife, one step-son, Leo Burgess, Sandy, Oregon, and three step-daughters, Mrs. Emil (Hazel) Seagren, Jefferson Mrs. Charles (Martha) Jondle, Shellsburg, Iowa and Mrs. Warren (Violet) Mechelke, Loyal 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his first wife, four brothers, and three sisters.


Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Georgas-Gesche Funeral Home, with the Rev. Eugene Carlson, pastor of the Loyal and York Center Methodist Churches, officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery at Caledonia, Minnesota.
