OBITUARY OF WILLIAM
WENDT
Wm. Wendt was born in Hanover, Germany, Sept. 7, 1846. Fifty four years ago he came to America. His first place of employment was at Neillsville, Clark County. Later on he was the owner of the John Wendt farm near Longwood and from this place his body was laid to rest in the Town of Longwood Cemetery beside his wife Emilia, who preceded him in death Jan. 13, 1918.
For a number of years they had lived at Curtiss, Wis. After the
death of his wife he made his home with his nephew John Wendt until
the latter moved to Athens. He then made his home at the County
Farm at Neillsville, where one of the men with whom he worked in
Neillsville on first coming to Wisconsin took care of him in his
last illness.
He died of Bright's disease, but had been able to be up part of the
time until the last few days of his life. He died Friday evening,
Feb. 17, 1928, at 11 o'clock. He had reached the Palmist high limit
of live, four score years and one.
The funeral text was Psalm 90, the 10th verse, explained by the
first and twelfth verses of that Psalm.
Mr. Wendt had been a hard working man all his lifetime and would
have had ample funds laid by had he not lost a great part of it
through the failure of a bank where his money was invested.
Two grand-nieces, Bertha and Alice Wendt, sang several appropriate
hymns, accompanied by Mrs. Swenson on the organ, at the cemetery
they sang Nearer My God to Thee: as the casket was being
lowered.
Mr. Wendt had 3 sisters who remained in Germany and one brother
Henry, who preceded him in death a number of years ago. Rev. E.
Pfeiffer officiated.
