DIES AT AGE 73
GREENWOOD - Services will be held a 2 p.m. Sunday at the Hill Funeral Home for Philenus Leander Westbay Sr., 73, of Greenwood, Clark County, who died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1971 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, where he had been a surgical patient since Jan. 7.
The Rev. Eugene Antrim, pastor of Grace United Methodist Church,
will officiate and burial will be made in the Greenwood cemetery.
Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Wallis-Hinker
Legion Post of Greenwood, of which he was a member.
Mr. Westbay was born Dec. 11, 1897 at Crown Point, Ind. He moved
with his family to Porter County, Ind., and received his education
in Porter County Schools.
He was married to Anna Marie Vitoux, on Nov. 11, 1919, in
Valparaiso, Ind. The couple lived in Porter County until December
of 1959 when they came to the Greenwood area. Their home is a farm
north of Greenwood in the town of Warner.
Survivors include his wife five daughters, Mrs. Anna Marie
Stratton, Mrs. Byron (Nancy) Garlach, and Mrs. Pauline Slingerland,
all of Greenwood Mrs. Ernest (Edna) Hebert, Valparaiso, Ind. and
Mrs. Richard (Irene) Carlberg, Hebron, Ind. a son, Philenus L.
Westbay Jr., Greenwood, 33 grandchildren 20 great-grandchildren a
sister, Mrs. Alice Swanson of Valparaiso, Ind.
