DEATH OF L. H.
WILCOX.
Lewis Henry Wilcox, whose death was mentioned last week, was born in Chautauqua County, New York, Nov. 14, 1842 and died Dec. 24, 1907, being sixty-five years of age.
He came with his parents to Dodge County in 1853 and then to
Waupaca County the next year.
In 1861 he enlisted as a private in Co. A of the 8th Wisconsin
Infantry and served through the war. He was a member of John A.
Eaton Post G.A.R., having joined in 1902.
In 1869 he married at Royalton, Waupacea county, and became the
father of four children. Walker and Mrs. Pearl Murphy, who live at
Fifield, Orpha or Mrs. Thos. Billings, who died at Fifield about
six years ago, and Lewis who is located in the west.
He located in Park Falls in 1872 or 1873 and remained there a
number of years, coming to Greenwood, Clark County, Wisconsin,
about fourteen years ago. Here he worked for the N. C. Foster
Lumber Company until the close of the lumbering business a few
years ago. He was well known by woodsmen in this section and had
many friends among them.
He lived on a farm northeast of town. When in town he usually made
his home with Harry Hogue and family.
He was one of a family of five, three brothers and a sister having
survived him. Two of the, W. A. and C. A. Wilcox, live at Weyawega,
S. E. Wilcox lives in Iowa and his sister, Mrs. Mary Mumbrue lived
in the town of Lynn, in Waupaca county. His mother is living in
Weyawega, being 88 years of age. He had but recently returned from
making her a visit when he was taken sick.
The funeral was held at Fifield Saturday afternoon and the body
laid to rest there where his daughter is buried. All of his
relatives were present but his son Lewis who could not get there in
time.
