JOHN D. WUETHRICH
John D. Wuethrich, 80, of Greenwood, Clark
County, died Tuesday, Feb 12, 1991, at his home.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 1991, at Trinity
Lutheran Church, Loyal. Officiating was Rev. Joseph R. Kraly.
Burial was in the parish cemetery with Tayt and Trevor Wuethrich,
Jay Stump, Mike and Lynn Luchterhand, Jerome Krause and Dan
Stensgard serving as pallbearers. Rinka Funeral Home, Loyal,
handled arrangements.
John D. Wuethrich was born to John S. and Vera (nee Drummond)
Wuethrich on Oct. 8, 1910, in Greenwood. He was a 1927 graduate of
Greenwood High School and attended Lawrence University.
He was married to Ragnhild Emberson on Oct. 17, 1931. She died in
1976. He married Vera Henseler on June 11, 1977.
He was chairman of the board and owner of John D. Wuethrich
Creamery Co., Inc., rural Greenwood, which produces Grassland Dairy
Products, with his son, Dallas. He was a merchandiser of both
butter and registered Holstein cattle.
He was a director of the National Butter Institute and Creameries
Association, president of Central Wisconsin Cheese and Buttermakers
Association and a former director of ADA of Wisconsin, and a
recipient of their Cow Bell Award. He was a prime force in the
Central Wisconsin Holstein Breeders Association, now sponsors of
the Kow Kountry Klassic Sale, and the former Western Wisconsin
Holstein group and its West Salem Sale. He was a director of the
Wisconsin Holstein Association for several terms and co-chaired the
1968 National Convention in Milwaukee.
He served on the church board of Our Savior's Lutheran Church,
Greenwood and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Loyal. He
was a Rotary Club member for 50 years and a 4-H leader for 25
years. He served on the fair boards of both the Northern Wisconsin
State Fair, Chippewa Falls, and the Central Cancer Society and
crusade chairman. He was on the board of directors of memorial
Medical Center and also served on the Neillsville Bank Board.
He was a recipient of the Greenwood High School Alumni Award and
Citizens of the year Award in Greenwood. In 1969, he received
honorary recognition from the University of Wisconsin College of
Agriculture and Life Sciences because of his contribution to
society as a progressive dairy processor, outstanding dairy farmer
and cattle breeder. In 1986, he received the Clark County Holstein
distinguished service award. In 1987, he was honored by the State
Holstein Association with the Wisconsin State Distinguished Service
Award.
He is survived by his wife, Vera two sons, Dallas (Lois) Wuethrich
and Devere Wuethrich, both of Greenwood one stepson, Lyle Heseler
of Layton, Utah two daughters, Mrs. Keith (Dawn) Stump of Loyal and
Mrs. Diane Mattes of River Falls one step-daughter, Mrs. Oville
(Ellen) Luchterhand of Loyal one brother, Allen of Lantan, Fla. six
grandchildren five step-grandchildren and one great-grandson and 10
step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ragnhild his parents
two grandsons and one step-great-granddaughter.
