HELEN ZELL


Helen Lois Zell, 91, Greenwood, Clark County, died Monday, Jan. 10, 1994, at Neillsville Memorial Nursing Home, Neillsville. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, 1994, at Rinka Funeral Home, Greenwood. Rev. Lowell Davis officiated. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery.


Helen Lois Cleveland was born on May 25, 1902, in Symco, Waupaca County, to George and Ardella (nee Dilley) Cleveland. She graduated from Greenwood High School and Eau Claire Normal School. She married Alfred Gemmeke on Nov. 24, 1921, in Spencer. He preceded her in death.


She taught school in the Spencer area for three years. She married William Zell on May 2, 1928, in Neillsville. After their marriage, they moved to the Zell family farm west of Greenwood, where she farmed with her husband until his death in February of 1971. She moved into Greenwood and resided there until entering the nursing home in September of 1990.


Survivors include one daughter, Margaret Gemmeke (Buford) Wilding, Milwaukee four grandchildren seven great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by both husbands, her parents, one great-great-grandson, one sister, and three brothers.


Rinka Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
