OBITUARY OF S. L. GATES
 

Sylvanus L. Gates, son of Aaron Gates and Maria Sawyer Gates, was born in Essex County, N.Y., Aug. 28, 1851.

He came to Wisconsin in 1879 and resided on a farm south of Greenwood, Clark County. He was united in marriage to Margaret Redmond on Aug. 16, 1883 and they made their home in the town of Eaton until Nov. 11, 1919, when they moved to Greenwood.

Two sons, Harley A. Gates of Cottage Grove, Oregon, and Irvin E. Gates of this city, were born to this union.

Mr. Gates passed away Tuesday evening, April 2, 1935 at his home here. He is survived by his widow, Margaret Gates, and the sons, Harley and Irvin.

He reached the age of 83 years, 7 months and 5 days.

Mr. Gates was devoted to his family and home. He made many lasting friends in his quiet way and the sympathy of all has gone out to him during his illness and is now extended to the members of his family, who mourn his loss.

Funeral services were held from the Reformed Church, Friday afternoon, Rev. E. G. Pfeiffer officiating. The body was laid to rest in the Greenwood Cemetery.
