OBITUARY OF JAMES E. TOMPKINS
 

James Edward Tompkins passed away at the Neillsville Hospital at the age of 85 years, 7 months and 14 days, on Saturday, Feb. 29, 1936, after a two week illness.


James Edward Tompkins was born in Essex, N.Y., July 15, 1850. He was the son of Martha E. (Lindsay) and Jones Tompkins. He came with his parents, at the age of 12 to Neillsville, Clark County in 1862, locating on a farm six mile south of Greenwood in the town of Eaton.


He was united in marriage to Frank Ann Raymond in 1875. They settled on a farm now operated by their son Earl.


To this union were born two sons, Earl Delos and Jones. He helped his father, Jones Tompkins, operate the old home farm until the time of his marriage.


He leaves to mourn his death, Earl and his wife, and his son Jones, two grandchildren, Lorraine, Iris and Nyle Everett Tompkins. Also two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Herbert Fradette and Mrs. Ross Paulson, both of Neillsville, Wis. His wife preceded him in death several years ago.


The funeral was held at the Methodist Episcopal Church in Greenwood on Tuesday, March 3, 1936 at 2:00 o'clock with interment in the Greenwood Cemetery, Rev. C.R. Gaylord officiating.
