OBITUARY OF OLE J. JOHNSON
Ole Johnson Olson
Ole J. Johnson, youngest child of Johannes
and Andrea Olson, was born Oct. 5, 1850 near Trondjem, Norway.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, continuing
steadfast in same until his departure, May 1, 1936, at his old home
near Greenwood, Clark County.
He attended school in Norway, and learned the shoemaker trade,
working at same with the late Elias Peterson before coming to
America, also after coming to Greenwood.
He came to Honeywell, now known as Greenwood, in the year 1870,
where he was first employed by John Bigger, a logger on the north
fork of Rock Creek. Altogether he spent fifteen seasons in lumber
camps and on log drives.
In the year 1874 he was united in marriage to Kari E. Peterson at
Greenwood. For nine years after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Ole J.
Johnson resided in Greenwood, keeping a boarding house, on the site
where the Henry Stabnow house now stands On June 11, 1883, they
moved to Rock Creek, in Section 2, Eaton Township. Mr. Johnson
buying forty acres of land, which constitutes a part of his farm,
known as Rock Creek Farm. The land was then wild, covered with
timber and there were no buildings.

Accordingly, he built a log house and barn, the house measuring 18
x 26 feet, containing three rooms. He had a pair of three old oxen,
two cows, a few chickens, but no tools. His wife assisted him in
clearing the forty acres, a task that was finally accomplished and
later increased the farm to one hundred acres.
Mr. Johnson was a great lover of nature, his hobby being hunting
and fishing. He was a charter member of the United Lutheran Church,
taking an active part in the work for many years, also singing in
the choir.
To their union were born twelve children of which seven beside his
wife preceded him in death. He was a kind and loving husband and
father, always striving to do his best toward his family and fellow
men.
He leaves to mourn his departure one daughter (Annie), Mrs. J. E.
Johnson of Greenwood, four sons, Oscar, of Corinth, N.D. Arthur,
Elmer and Leo of Greenwood twenty two grandchildren and nine
great-grandchildren, besides many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, May 5th at the United
Lutheran Church, Rev. M. K. Aaberg, officiating and interment was
made in the Greenwood Cemetery.
The pallbearers were Andrew Olson, Henry Olson, Albert Mathison,
Henry Mathison, Carl Krogness and Olaf Krogness.
Those from out of town who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs.
H.J. Wright, two daughters Beverly and Carol, Miss Agnete Danielson
and Frank Trudeau of Eau Claire and Joan Danielson of Menomonie,
Wis.
