HENRY DECKER

Henry Decker was born Feb. 2, 1835, at Hohen-hausen, Lippe Detmold, Germany. In his 22nd or 23rd year he came to Sheboygan County, Wis. He served in the war from 1862 to 1864.

After his return from the war he was united in marriage to Sophia Schwarze in the year 1867.

In May of the year 1870 the family came to Clark County and settled on a farm about 3 miles west of Greenwood. On this farm they remained until 1902, when they moved to the Braun Settlement about 5 miles north of where by hard labor they built themselves a new home, and it was here Mr. Decker passed to his reward.

His wife preceded him in death just one year ago, and since then he felt lonesome and had a longing for the final resting place.

He was taken sick with dropsy about 4 years ago and all that kind hands and medical skill could do, was done, but to no avail and he passed away Aug. 6, 1914, reaching the age of 78 years, 6 months, 4 days.

He is survived by 4 daughters and 5 sons, all residing in this vicinity with the exception of one son, Louis, who resides in Montana, also 33 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in the German Reformed Church, conducted by Rev. Saewert. Many friends paid their last tribute to the departed. There was a great profusion of flowers.
