WILLIAM F. POTTER
Wm. Potter was born in the town of Oakland,
Jefferson County on Aug. 4, 1854. He lived the early days of his
boyhood with his parents on their homestead, and with his two
brothers attended the district school during the winter months.
Finally at the age of eighteen he entered the Albion Academy. Upon
completing its course he took a course in cheese making, serving
his apprenticeship under his cousin, Thos. Potter, who was managing
the Cambridge cheese factory at that time.
After mastering his trade he made cheese in Lebanon and Clyman,
Wis. There he married Miss Ellen Kennedy in 1885. The next year he
gave up cheese making and, with his wife and daughter Mary, moved
to a farm one mile west of Cambridge, Dane County, Wis., where they
resided fourteen years, and at which place six of the children were
born.
Nine years ago last April he moved with his family to a farm four
miles south of Greenwood, Clark County, at which place they were
residing up to the time of his death.
Mr. Potter was a kind and accommodating neighbor, a loving father
and husband, and his steady honest qualities made him respected and
honored by all who knew him.
Besides one brother, Samuel of Cambridge, the deceased is survived
by his widow and six children, Mary, William, Frances, Arthur,
Homer and Ray.
The youngest, Joseph, died in infancy.
