OBITUARY OF CARL H. CHANDLER

Carl Chandler, age 69 years, died at 8:30 o'clock Sunday evening, March 26, 1939 at his home in Blanchardville.

Carlton Homer Chandler was born Feb. 24, 1870, son of Carlton and Mary Chandler, at Neillsville, Clark County, Wis. He graduated from high school there and attended Ripon College. He went to Blanchardville in 1895 and engaged in the insurance business.

Mr. Chandler spent much of his early life in Greenwood, where he attended school in the little red schoolhouse with Mrs. O. C. Behrens, and his mother was the school teacher. His mother was a sister of Mrs. Robert Schofield and he spent a great deal of time at the Schofield home here, and as long as his health permitted he spent Memorial Day in Greenwood.

On April 2, 1899, he was united in marriage with Lulu Blanchard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Blanchard, founders of the village of Blanchardville and they resided there ever since. In the year 1896 he purchased the Blanchardville Blade and edited and published this paper until 1918, when he sold it and devoted all his time to his insurance business.

He was prominent in the civic interests of his community and in religious and social circles. The sterling qualities which were so evident in him even as a very young man, grew with the years until he became one of the most valuable and best loved men in the community.

Mr. Chandler was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Blue Lodge Chapter, Commandry, Consistory and Zor Shrine and the Modern Woodmen of America. He was a member of the Methodist Church and Sunday School., fire department, school board and Lafayette County Board and was president of the Lafayette County Insurance Underwriters.

Deceased is survived by his widow, one daughter, Maybelle (Mrs. Reginald Waldo), Neenah, one son, Carlton, Blanchardville, and one grandchild, Dix Waldo of Neenah. His parents and two sisters preceded him in death.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, March 22, 1939 at 1:30 p.m. from the home and at 2:00 p.m. from the Blanchardville Methodist Chruch by the pastor, Rev. A. E. Weittenhiller, who was assisted by former pastors Rev. E. P. Stone of Neillsville and Rev. Guy Campbell of Granville, Ill., Father Bernard Duffy also gave an appropriate talk.
