OBITUARY OF JACOB SCHILLER
 

Jacob Schiller, son of Michael and Christina Schiller, was born in the Town of Marshfield, Fond du Lac County on Dec. 25, 1851.

As a youth he was employed on the farm of Mrs. Schiller's parents. On Feb. 6, 1876 he was united in marriage with Miss Margaret Litzen.

After their marriage they moved to a farm in Marion County and then to Clark County, coming to Neillsville 47 years ago. Mr. Schiller started working as a logger for John Hein, one of the well known lumbermen of this section.

Mr. and Mrs. Schiller settled down in a log cabin near Wedges Creek during these first years in the Clark County wilderness. A few years later the Hein sawmill was moved to the Town of York and Mr. and Mrs. Schiller went along with it. Mr. Schiller was a valued employee of Mr. Hein and frequently was sent out in search of new timberlands.

After 14 years of this work Mr. and Mrs. Schiller moved to Neillsville, where he took over a position with the city water works. It was here that an unhappy accident overtook him. A piece of flying metal lodged in an eye. An operation failed to save the eye and soon blindness came to the other eye.

On Feb. 6, 1939 Mr. and Mrs. Schiller celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary.

Mr. Schiller passed peacefully away on Wednesday morning, July 19, 1939 at 9:00 a.m. after a few days illness.

He is survived by his wife, one son, T. F. Schiller of this city and five daughters, Mrs. Wm. (Della) Betz, Weston Mrs. Ed (Anna) Wolf, Lindsay, Mont. Mrs. Thorwald (Margaret) Christopherson, Juneau Mrs. Frances Preston, at home Miss Mildred Schiller, Madison and one sister, Mrs. Clara Kreidler, Plymouth. One son, Wm. Schiller, passed away a few years ago.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday morning at 9:00 o'clock at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Rev. J. A. Biegler officiating and the body was laid to rest in the Catholic Cemetery.
